Fifth Award in Seven Years Recognizes 2019 Master Planning for the Golf Course at Maple Lane Golf Club

HOLLAND, Mich. – Raymond Hearn Golf Course Design’s master planning of the historic Maple Lane Golf Course (1926) in Sterling Heights, Mich., has been recognized by The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) with a 2019 Design Excellence Recognition Award.

It is the fifth ASGCA Design Excellence Award won by Hearn’s Holland, Mich.-based firm in the last seven years.

“It is a great honor to receive recognition for our golf course master planning work at Maple Lane,” said Hearn, a Detroit native. “We’re proud of the Maple Lane Golf Course project, and proud that we have been recognized by the ASGCA,” Hearn said. “We feel fortunate to have won this award once again. All awards are wonderful, but to have it come from golf industry professionals makes it extra special.”

Hearn’s golf course master plan includes the design of an upscale resort-style 18 holes and a 9-hole par three course both that will features some classic Golden Age green designs. A construction timeline and other details are being determined. Giffels Webster is the project engineer and residential land planner. The course owner is the Moceri Companies out of Auburn Hills, Michigan.

“I grew up playing this golf course and have some very fond memories here from my youth. Every hole in our planning exhibits multiple risk/reward play options so the course will be very fun to play for all skill levels from golf professionals to beginners.”

Maple Lane’s service to the golf community dates to 1926 and original architecture work. Below are artist renderings of two of the new holes that Hearn will create on the property.

In addition to the Design Excellence Recognition Award for work at Maple Lane, Hearn has also won ASGCA Design Excellence honors for his renovation work in 2018 at Water’s Edge Golf Club in Fremont, Mich., his work in 2017 at Golf de Club de Panama in Panama City, his renovation of his own design in 2014 at Mistwood Golf Club in Chicago, Ill., and renovation of his own design in 2013 at Island Hills Golf Club in Centreville, Mich.
